AAIE is the leading association for professional technology ethicists to advance the state of the art of ethics consultations, audits, and evaluations. With the growing call for ethics and human values alignment in automated systems, the need for skilled ethicists who can serve in consultative capacities is critical.

Yet, even as companies around the world are recruiting for senior-level ethicists, there are currently no recognised standards on the professional background or competences of AI and Digital Ethicists. This gap increases pressure on ethicists and risks undermining the quality of ethical choices. AAIE is working to organize ethicists and develop unified standards for being a chief ethicist or ethics consultant.
